Having turned the recent
Alice In Wonderland live-action movie into a success, Disney is getting the movie's screenwriter Linda Woolverton to do bring another classic Disney animated feature to life.
Maleficent will be a live-action film about the origins of the wicked fairy from
Sleeping Beauty. In the original version of the story, the character's name was Carabosse, but this proposed movie will probably stick closer to the green-skinned version in the Disney animated productions. This is similar to
Gregory Maguire's take on the Wicked Witch of the West that he did in the hit book
Wicked and the
musical. Both had green skin, and both were considered very "wicked". How closely
Maleficent will follow the same path as
Wicked remains to be seen.
